Firefox Version 2 is the latest stable version (as of March 2007) of  the web browser released in October 2006. Internet Explorer is the most widely used web browser since it is distributed free with all Windows computer. However , a number of security holes have been found in Internet Explorer, which make the user vulnerable to hackers, unless a security patch is installed. Safari 2 and Opera 9 are the other browsers available.

The default version of  Firefox  includes the Google Toolbar. Thunderbird is the email client supplied with Firefox (similar to Outlook Express for Internet Explorer). However, the file size is large and downloading may take some time with a slow internet connection. User interface has been updated in Firefox 2, which allows for tabbed browsing. Popup windows, image downloads, Java and JavaScript can be enabled through the Contents section of  the Options.

This version of FireFox has an additional anti-phishing option. A website is checked against a black list which is periodically updated by a remote provider ( Google is the default provider). If there is a problem with the website, the user is alerted. There is also an option of Web Forgery to report a phishing website. However, many websites are still optimized only for Internet Explorer

Unlike Internet Explorer, Firefox 2 has an inbuilt spell check, which checks the text entered in a text box for spelling. By clicking on an misspelled word, you are given an option to replace it with a correctly spelled word or save it to your personal dictionary.
